It’s that time of year again! Christmas is just around the corner and we have just the place for finding presents with a difference, all in aid of a great cause.
The Charity Sale of Artworks is an affordable art fair that will make for some really special Christmas Presents you will definitely not find anywhere else.
On sale will be unique work from over 50 emerging and established artists, including graduates from the Royal College of Art, the Royal Academy, The Ruskin and The Slade, making for a beautiful lineup of work alongside festive treats such as mulled cider, honey whisky and cakes.
This is the second sale organised by Kate Halstead, Rosie Reed and Rob Branigan. Kate is a Set Designer and Ceramicist who runs a showroom selling unique items of interest, supporting contemporary makers and sourcing antique homewares. Rosie Reed and Rob Branigan have collaborated on a number of projects and exhibitions since graduating from The Ruskin in 2013. Independently they have since trained at the Royal College of Art, and are both currently practising artists.
The sale is not only in support of local artists but in support of an incredible charity, POEMS For Children is a UK based charity set up with the aim to train healthcare professionals working with Children, in particular, children suffering from anxiety within the healthcare system.
POEMS is an acronym for Positive Outcome Experience Management Strategies. In a 2017 survey across England, one in eight young people aged between 5 and 19, had a mental disorder according to a major new report which provides England’s best source of data on trends in child mental health. Up to 80% of children admitted to hospital with chronic illness can experience anxiety from hospitalisation alone. Anxiety directly increases the perception of pain, affects immune function and prolongs the healing process. POEMS for Children train staff to identify, manage and hopefully prevent anxiety in children under their care.
POEMS was founded by Mike Stylianou and Dr Richard Martin. Mike is a hypnotherapist, with over 20 years experience, performance coach and counsellor, working with both adults and children, he is also part of the education team at Great Ormond Street Hospital for children. Phil is a Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia at Great Ormond Street and Co-founder and director of POEMS, Phil has a specialist interest in education, the management and prevention of procedure-related anxiety, performance anxiety and in particular anxiety related to examinations, interviews and presentations. The POEMS team have trained over 2000 health care professionals and are currently working on the development of some cutting-edge simulation training that will help health care professionals develop a better understanding of the challenges and complexities of communicating with children.
