Mental health problems in the workplace cost the UK economy over £34.9bn last year, according to a study undertaken by the Centre for Mental Health.
The Mental Movement Coaching & Consultancy Agency will assist businesses in building a culture of well-being and empathic understanding to help eradicate the stigma of mental health problems at work.
We recognise that stigma in the workplace is still very prevalent with just over 1 in 10 (13%) of employees with a mental health issue feeling able to disclose it to their line manager or HR (Mental Health at Work Report 2017). This culture of silence condemns thousands of employees each year leaving many feeling unable to express concern to colleagues or managers.
Whilst managers are becoming increasingly conscious of staff wellbeing, many admit to struggling with the barriers to facilitating real support with 35% of managers reporting to not having any workplace facilities or services that could help mental health and wellbeing (National Employee Mental Wellbeing Survey Findings 2017).
During our venture with Mental Movement Magazine, we’ve uncovered two key pain points that consistently re-appear. The first being a significant rise in the number of people struggling with their mental health at work who were too afraid to speak with their management or boss about their struggles. Too often, this increased stress related absenteeism and resulted in unfair discriminatory dismissals or the pressure to leave. The second and if not the most prominent of the two, the continual rise of young people feeling unsupported by the NHS and unable to obtain any quality support or therapy.
In response to the growing public health concern of poor mental health experienced by people in the United Kingdom today, our social enterprise aims to primarily support young people who are unable to obtain therapeutic services due to long waiting lists and/or financial hardship. In order to facilitate this, our coaching programs will help businesses make necessary positive changes in the workplace and offer one-to-one staff coaching to improve employee wellbeing at work.
All of our coaches, counsellors and psychotherapists will have an innate understanding of what it means to hit ‘rock bottom’. Lived experience is central to our work and enables us to navigate with great empathy, allowing those we work with to feel heard, supported and above all, empowered.
Our coaching program will facilitate safe and supportive environments that allow individuals to:
- Improve self-confidence and self-acceptance
- Garner a stronger sense of identity and purpose in the workplace
- Increase hope and better wellness
- Decrease stress
- Improve work/life balance
- Encourage individual goal-setting for personal development
Coaches will also be available to clients via Skype, email, telephone and WhatsApp.
