The Grace Dear Trust

With just over one week to go to the Viva Forever Charitable Music Festival, we are thrilled to be supporting the incredible work of The Grace Dear Trust.

The Grace Dear Trust is a mental health charity recently established by the Dear family who sadly lost their daughter and sister, Grace, to suicide aged just 27 in February 2017.

With an aim to help raise awareness of mental ill health, the Dear family are on a mission to support other young people who may be struggling to open up, obtain help and reach a state of recovery.

From the age of 11 Grace had suffered from depression and anxiety but struggled to reach out to anyone to help her make sense of the feelings she was experiencing. Not knowing why, Grace suffered in silence for many years.

Recognising the important role education plays in raising awareness for such struggles, the Grace Dear Trust want to facilitate and fund seminars in schools. Guest speakers will be invited to help young people understand the importance of mental wellbeing and encourage those who may be suffering in silence to get help. Eventually, they aim to extend support by funding counsellors in local schools, giving young people a better opportunity of accessing help more promptly.

The family also stated, “We also want to create a local network of professionals that young adults can reach out to. Most importantly, we want to let children know that “it’s OK not to be OK” and to help end the stigma and get people talking.”

With mental health issues affecting 1 in 4 people and public funding for additional and much-needed resources being at an all-time low, the family recognise the importance of establishing a more effective approach to prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

To raise awareness and help raise money for the charity, they have organised a music festival on Saturday 30th June. There will be bands playing all day with children’s entertainment and food vans to make sure there is something for everyone! Join us for a fantastic day of music, food and an unmissable opportunity to raise awareness for a cause that effects so many loved ones!
